With the classic editor being phased out and block editing coming into themes in WordPress we now have more functionality than ever before. Previously the WordPress themes would be coded by one lot of programmers and then plugins were created by another groups of software developers.

Traditionally in WordPress, themes, plugins, and the native content editor have played distinct roles. Themes provide the logic, structure (header, footer, content area, etc.), and visual appearance of the site. Plugins extend the core functionality of WordPress.

The Start Of Full Site Editing

What is full site editing?
Since Gutenberg we have seen how styling, editing, content creation is now more flexible with blocks. We can introduce blocks in the header, footer, sidebar and add different elements for your blog to these blocks. What Is a template in a WordPress Blog?

A predefined arrangement of blocks set up to fulfill a certain theme requirement is a template. These can include placeholders as well as predefined attributes.

In a traditional WordPress blog template files are a part of the theme. Templates may also be a part of plugins in some instances.

These templates can then be applied contextually to pages and posts based on the hierarchy seen in the WordPress templates.

While template files are written in PHP, they may contain some HTML markup.
